spacescapes
David Lehigh's work seeks to communicate a sense of place, and a perception of time, with an emphasis on perceived events as a continuum in our greater existence— an existence tied to our universe and natural environment.
Umpqua VI
18x26"
mixed media - watercolor, acrylic, india ink, conte
This landscape is a visualized cross-section, as if one cut through all the different strata, exposing water and other mineral issues. The Oregon Watercolor Society awarded David Lehigh membership in 1981 based on this work (only 28 artists were accepted that year).
Euclid IV
28x32"
mixed media - acrylic, india ink
This outer-space landscape is an expression of space and time, with nebula formations and currents within inter-galaxy strata, and black holes erupting throughout a millennia.
Spacescape XIII
28x12"
mixed media - acrylic, india ink
This is an attempt to visualize outer-space as a landscape, rendering nebula formations and currents within inter-galaxy strata, and black holes erupting amongst discharged debris.
Spacescape XII
168x32" (in two segments)
oil on canvas
This piece commissioned by Pacific University was inspired by the scientific principles of outer-space and our solar system. Nebula and vortex currents are rendered in blues and earth tones, expressing spatial movement, mass relative to velocity, and black hole movements as a foundation of spacescape formation.
Spacescape XIII
120x48"
oil on canvas
Another work commissioned by Pacific University, this piece captures nebula and vortex currents in earth tones and blues, and seeks to express the scientific concepts of spatial movement, mass, velocity and the creation of black holes as they relate to spacescape formation and votive velocity.
Spacescape VI
18x12"
mixed media - acrylic, india ink
This is another outer-space landscape, depicting black hole activity, nebula formations and currents within inter-galaxy strata.
Earth Shot
48x12"
oil on panel
This piece is an attempt to conceive earth as viewed from a satellite in another galaxy through nebula currents.
Spacescape X
22x30"
mixed media - acrylic, india ink
This piece is another visualization of outer-space as a landscape, with nebula formations and currents within inter-galaxy strata, and black holes erupting throughout the vast continuum of space and time.
